A non-toxic, glide enhancer liquid is sprayed on to the surface to reduce the friction created by the blade. Heat created by the blade moving across the ice helps to release the glide enhancer to further simulate gliding action. The amount of glide enhancer used, the cleanliness of the rink surface and the sharpness of the blade, combine to create the optimum skating experience. The rinks feels 10-15% slower than skating on typical refrigerated ice, and feels much like skating on a frozen pond.
